- a free peer-to-peer youth mental health awareness and suicide prevention training initiative offered to schools and community groups that strengthens an individual’s existing supportive skills and provides the knowledge necessary to support the mental health and well-being of others and themselves
Topics include:
- effective communication
- self-care
- healthy boundaries
- the ethics of helping
- handling crisis situations
- and suicide awareness
Outcomes include:
- how to identify and help youth who may be struggling
- how to take care of your own well-being when you are a helper to someone else
- increased awareness to reduce stigma of mental illness and suicide
- expanded knowledge on youth mental health issues
- how to find and refer to appropriate professional resources
Content aligns with Health and Career and Life Management (CALM) class curriculum requirements and is appropriate for grades 9 to 12. Program may also be offered in a mixed-grade format.
